The Polish poet Adam Mickiewicz visited Crimea in 1825, after which he wrote a series of sonnets entitled Crimean Sonnets in his native language. The series was initially published in Poland in 1826.
Crimean Tatar is an endangered language and one of the most ancient languages in the world, particularly in its spoken form.
Crimea, which is in Eastern Europe and most often referred to as the Crimean Peninsula, has been embroiled in territorial conflicts for centuries and remains so to this day.
